Colombia, the land of coffee


During 2006 and 2007 the income figures of foreign tourists have grown surprisingly, approximately 2,000,000 foreigners entered the country in 2006.
For travelers the main destinations are Bogotá and Cartagena, followed by Medellin, the latter with improved security that projects a positive future.
Rural areas are however the most attractive for Europeans eg due to its nature landscapes, cultural contact and the tradition that is already hard to find in big cities.
Within the rural tourism highlights the Coffee, Huila, Amazon and Chocó where practice sustainable tourism, improving the living conditions of communities.

In 2007, the Lost City, or (Teyuna) won the 5-position as one of the 7 Wonders of Colombia, by voting.

Buritaca-200 or Lost City was discovered in 1976 by a team of archaeologists from the Colombian Institute of Anthropology headed by Gilberto Cadavid and almost entirely restored.

Archaeological investigations at the site suggest that this town was founded around 800 AD and abandoned at some point between 1550 and 1600 AD In its surroundings were detected 11 other villages, and some of these sites have been excavated. It rises between 900 and 1,200 feet above the foothills of Cerro Correa in the north of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (Colombia) on the right bank of the River Buritaca.

It is known as Teyuna by the natives of the area and hence its compound name: Loss-Teyuna Archaeological Park City, but within the nomenclature of archaeological sites for the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is also known as Buritaca-200.

The site comprises a complex of buildings, paved roads, stairs and walls interconnected by a series of terraces and platforms on which ceremonial centers, homes and food storage sites were built.

It occupies an area of ​​approximately 200 hectares, about 2 square kilometers. Since its discovery it has been administered by the Colombian Institute of Anthropology and National Archaeological Park has been nominated to UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
