In Russia fired twice a year, one on December 31 and again the night of 13 to 14 January. This tradition has its origin in a royal decree of the Russian government in 1918.
In another article Blogturistico.com talk about New Year traditions around the world , today we have more than a curious celebration the "old" New Year in Russia.
Celebrating New Year in Russia
- In 1917 after the Russian Revolution, the power in Russia decided to ban Christmas, but allowed the New Year. This ban was relaxing when in 1935 was commissioned to factories making gifts for the children of workers and the sale of Christmas trees in the markets was authorized. The press of the time praising the new year began, shopping and the joy of the people. So the New Year became the Soviet Union in the only state party not related to the communist ideology .
- However despite the holidays December 31, January 1 remained weekday. Workers who had celebrated the night had to follow the next day with your workday. It was in 1948 when the government finally declared holiday on January 1.
- After the fall of the USSR in 1992 decreed that it was also entitled to rest on January 2. The thing that was improved in 2005 were not only feast on 1 and 2 January, New Year holidays, settled 1 to January 5.
Why January 14?
In addition to these New Year holidays, the Russians are fortunate to celebrate in the New Year twice. This is because the Soviet government change in 1918 from the Julian to the Gregorian (which is what we use in Europe and much of the world) calendar. The difference between a calendar and another is 13 days so seguiendo old Julian calendar turns to celebrate the New Year the night of 13 to 14 January.
This celebration of 14 January for the majority of Russians is already a way to extend the New Year celebrations (considering starting the year with five days of vacation, party on hold another 13 to 14 insurance is welcome ).
